+ Do I have to be in a crisis to seek counselling?
Definitely not! There are many reasons people seek the support of a counsellor. Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgemental space to clarify your thoughts and feelings, decide upon the next steps you'd like to take, or sometimes even just to talk to a neutral party about your life. Mental health matters.
+ What's the difference between me and a psychologist?
If you feel you would be best served by a formal diagnosis, a psychologist offering a mental health care plan (through your GP) may be your best path forward. My counselling approach, which also uses many of the evidence-based interventions of a psychologist, centres on you, the person, and how to build new skills to deal with your situation and the often-difficult thoughts and feelings that go with it. Unlike a health care plan, no record of counselling appears on your health record. And not to mention, you can often see me within a week of our initial contact.
+ Is what I talk about in session confidential?
Absolutely, your privacy and confidentiality are of the greatest importance. Our conversations will only keep between you and me. However, there are a few circumstances in which I may be required to break confidentiality. Upon booking with us, you will receive an Intake and Consent form which will detail all of your rights as well the policies and legal requirements surrounding this.

+ Can I get Medicare or Private Health Insurance rebates?
As a counsellor, I am not able to offer Medicare rebates under mental health care plan. You may check your private health insurance policy if your level covers our services. In fact, the hourly rate charged is less than the private health fund gap paid by the client. However, there are many benefits of working with a counsellor privately:
-
You do not require a referral from your GP to access counselling, therefore you get to choose the counsellor you are comfortable with rather than the one you are referred to.
-
You are not limited to the number of sessions available under a Care Plan or your Private Health fund's extras cover.
